🌿 About this place

Te Tauihu-o-te-Waka-a-Māui refers to the “prow of Māui’s canoe”, a name that connects this region to the great Māori legend of Māui fishing up the North Island. The Marlborough Sounds is a network of ancient sunken river valleys now filled with the sea, creating a maze of sheltered waterways, forested hills and hidden bays.

This is one of the most peaceful and scenic regions in New Zealand, where land and sea blend together. Remote, quiet and rich in marine life, it feels far from the busy tourist routes.
