4 - Auckland ( Tāmaki Makaurau)

🌿 About this place

Tāmaki Makaurau, known as Auckland, is the largest city in New Zealand and sits between two harbours, shaped by volcanic land and deep Māori history. The name means “desired by many,” reflecting how this land was highly valued by different iwi due to its fertile soil and strategic location.

Auckland is built on over 50 volcanic cones, making it one of the most unique urban landscapes in the world. Many of these maunga (mountains) are sacred to Māori and offer some of the best views in the city.

The city is also known as the “City of Sails”, with more boats per capita than almost anywhere else in the world. Being surrounded by water, life here is strongly connected to the ocean.
